Great Day

Another great day, breakfast as usual on Thursday at Saint Johns cafeteria, some work on the 2004 IRS tax forms and enjoying the great weather, maybe up to 80 in some areas.

Temperature outside now 60.8 and inside 70.7.

Diets

What some call health, if purchased by perpetual anxiety about diet, isn’t much better than tedious disease.

George Dennison Prentice

I do not pay much attention to diets; just use moderation about all foods and the content.

Voluteering

Monday is still my day to volunteer at Saint Johns Medical Center at the Outpatients information desk, at least six years so far. I like the volunteering there and can handle the job well, it can be hectic with some time impatient patient, some upset and some very un-well, much information is requested, were to send the patients and two telephone, people come in bunches and it is not necessary to say that if things not going at it‘s best it all happens at once. I give one a good feeling to be help were help is really needed. They are in a pinch tomorrow and I will fill in, something I just about never do, one day a week is enough.

Temp outside 59, inside 70.3 and lots of sunshine.

Easter

Easter turned out to be good after some events that worked and some that did not. Had breakfast at The International House Of Pancakes. The plan was to attend Easter Services at the large catholic Saint Monica Church, parking was impossible for blocks in all directions and the line for the 11 o’clock service was to long to consider. Got back to the UU’s of Santa Monica with the church full and found a most enjoyable Easter service. The dedication of a young child seemed so right for Easter, the start of a new life.

Dinner

Yesterday became more interesting than I had thought that it would.
Brent and Paige had planned a dinner at their home in the hills of Brentwood. It was an Easter dinner for what little family she has, eight of them and me. Their place is well located and Paige is good at making a place attractive and comfortable. Muriel, her mother, was a big help in preparing the excellent meal.

Desrpution

Today a helper for the landlord will remove the locked door between my kitchen and a laundry room in the rental connected to this studio. I believe that this unit was an in-law studio apartment and set-up so they could share the common laundry room. I do not expect much disruption.

Daily Activity

Yesterday I had a chance to do some gardening. It looks as if I will have a large crop of Ogallala berries; strawberries seem to be coming along slow and not too many blooms. In afternoon the rain began and it came down heavy. This area is coming very close to beating all records for the most rain in a season, 34 inches so far. There has been surprisingly small amount of damage.

HECM

Steven sent an e-mail mentioning Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECM) or reverse mortgages. It sounds as if would solve some of Norma’s problems. I would advise all interested parties to understand this option. It may be the best solution that she and the family has.

Birthday Party

The trip to Aidan’s 1st birthday starting on Friday all worked out for me. Friday night and Saturday night at Steven and Jyoti’s worked out good for me. The party on Saturday afternoon at Carl and Joan’s new family home was great. There a good crowd there with the four children, Nicholas, Amber, Dylan and Aidan. They all had a good time together. Aidan, of course, did not understand all the fuss over him but was happy with it all. There new home is going to be just right for them, big enough, nice as new, good big patio and backyard for use by all of them, and in a very good location.

Procedures

Today at 9 A. M. I will be back at Kaiser West Los Angeles for a procedure called flourescein. Yesterday ophthmologist Dr. Rosen looked at my left eye and report that there was some good results form the Visudyne treatment by Dr. Kaba that was done a few weeks ago. After being at two ARMD groups and some of those in the group had the treatment with the newest method, Macugen, and had vision improvement. Dr. Rosen will look at the flourescein procedure pictures and then will schedule an appointment for the Macugen treatment. This is a lot of eye doctoring but feel as if I
should do all that can be done without risks to help with my eyes.

Each of these treatments can be looked up in the Internet if you are interested in learning something about them.

Aidan Party +

Carl send instruction for the trip to Aidan’s 1st birthday party. I have plans to fly to San Francisco, meet with Steven on Friday afternoon, be at his place on Friday evening and ride to the party on Saturday. It will be good so see those that can make it there and to see the new home.

Norma suggested the book on tape of the book ‘Colony’. The Santa Monica Library had the book on tape and they reserved it for me. Today during the regular weekly trip to the library it was on the reserve shelf for me. After listening to the 1st side of tape one, I know that I will enjoy the 25 hours of listening to all of the tapes. The narrator is just right for the book, sometimes I get so tired of listening to the reader; her voice is good and suitable for the type of book. The library has ten different titles of books by Anne Siddens; maybe I will enjoy more of her books. She was going to mail it. It is good that she don’t have to go to the trouble of sending the recordings. She can give them to someone else to enjoy.

Today

This day is intended to do some domestic duties, laundry some cleaning and such chores. A trip to the library is planed for later in the day. I have been getting a few good books on tape now and then and some weeks bring home some DVD’s. I am not too much into watching movies, like to live with an entertaining subject longer than an hour or so they way it is necessary with movies.

Coffee

There are a number of groups that deal with Age Related Macular Degeneration. Tomorrow at 1:00 I will be at one at UCLA. At each one that I have attended, two so far, I have learned something. Not much but such as, at the last one they did not serve coffee because old people who cant see well spill to much coffee on each other, valuable stuff like that. Seriously, they are helpful.

Adio Books

I have been reading a number of audio books; most are good some not so good. The one I am reading now is about the best, “The Last Picture Show” by Larry McMurtry. I have read about everything that he has written. Audio books are okay to listen to, reading real books is better.

This morning Mel, my neighbor from 1440, and I will be at the Skirball Center for a meeting concerning age related macular degeneration. During the evening Elayne, another former neighbor, will be in attendance at the Harold Williams auditorium at the Getty Center to see part of film series about Napoleon sponsored by the University of California film archive department. It would be better if it does not rain too much.

Checing Account

I do online banking and looking at checking my status yesterday the balance was $57,145.36, a nice surprise. It didn’t take to long to realize that a $55,000 t-bill failed to reinvest, no problem in getting the Treasury Department on the phone and entering some key-pad numbers and it will be restored by the 10th. It is no big financial loss at about 2% interest for a few days. I wonder how the government is continuing to do to business without those funds, check the news for the next few day to see if it has made a ripple in the nation’s operation.

Gardening +

I intend to do some gardening today. With so many rainy days it needs some work. I may find a strawberry or two there. Nothing else so unordinary is expected to happen on this day.

Yesterday was the third day in a row that I had visitors. Usually I do not get many visitors they are always welcomed.
