Dr. Liu

On Thursday Dr. Liu recommended cutting the prednisone by 25%, some left shoulder exercises, scheduling some physician therapy and gave me a months supple of fosamax (about $195.00 worth). I am pleased with the results that have been obtained in the last month. I will see him again on June 6th.

Frivolous

If some of these blogs may seem too frivolous and seem like their is not much point to sending them each day. The reason behind them is to let you know that I am up and about each day, everything else in them may have some news about what is going on.

Rheumatologist

This afternoon I will be with the rheumatologist for a check. I have been feeling better since the last visit. He should have some suggestions and medicine adjustment.

A Play

I will return the CD “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” to the library. It was a play by George Bernard Shaw and very good listening.

The inconvenience of being with out water for most of the day will continue for another day or two. It will be good to get hot water again after being without it for too long.

Plumbing

Not much out of the ordinary is expected today. The four plumbers are re-piping the four units and replacing the water faucets. I can expect some inconveniences.

Two Books

Here are a couple of books that I recommend for those who like backpacking, hiking and travel through beautiful vistas. Both are by Colin Fletcher, “The Thousand-Mile Summer: In Desert and High Sierra” and “River” One Man’s Journey Down the Colorado, Source to Sea. They make you feel as it you are there experiencing the trip with him.
These books recall the family’s many experiences with the Colorado Mountain Hills Club, Contra Costa Hills Club and our camping.

The hikers became uncles, aunts and grandparents to the children who were far from the real thing way out there in Colorado and California.

Two Incidents

If you have not read Paul’s comment in yesterday’s comments. They tell about a great bicycle event.

The following is something that is hard to write about but they are things that happened and shows the life the can have strange incidents.
As I was leaving Santa Monica’s Medical Center cafeteria yesterday a young man showed an interest in the Segway. I give him a quick demonstration and asked where he worked, he said, “I am a nurse in training." He said, “Do you know that you are beautiful.” I thanked him and prepared to leave and he asked, “Where do you live.” I gave a rough description. He said, “Can I come to visit you.”

I was astonished and replied, “I am not interested” and off I went.

A few years back I was eating at Shacky’s, there was hardly anyone I the place. Before I finished a lady well into her middle years came over and said, “I am in need of some sex.”

I simply said, “I am not interested.” That ended the encounter.

Both of these encounters gave me an unpleasant and uneasy feeling. Life has all kinds experiences.

Uuncle Roy Delaney nee Bureau

On Wednesday Norma called to tell of the death of her Uncle Roy Delaney nee Bureau. He had died on April 7 and there was some delay in getting the notice to her. Roy is he last of her father and mother’s generation. Roy was 85, five years older than Norma, and lost his wife of 50 years not long ago. Roy lived in Sanoma California and ran a business and was very popular and had many friends. The four Bureau brothers were all exceptional and fun to be with and great to know. Norma’s father died when she was eight and that a lasting effect on her. It is a mile marker in life when you loose the last of the previous generation, thoughs go through your mind.

Water Problems

This four-apartment complex is has been having some plumbing problems that started with old age and aggravated by some remodeling. The first was some clogged faucet aerators, then a toilet float valve that would not shut off, then no hot water. The crud in the old pipes and a broken hot water pipe was the final cause. They changed the water heater, no help, and now are they are re-piping and changing all the faucets. The owners, a family trust in Warren Pennsylvania, can afford the cost with the rents they collect, $4800.00 per month and the fast appreciation of the property. There will be a few days of incontinence.

Wearther

The weather has been most pleasant, ranging mostly around 70 degrees, clear skies, light breeze. It is about time for the morning fog to begin and it lasts a few months. Some call it the June gloom. The fog keeps the sun from heating things up until the afternoon cooler air comes in from the Pacific. Of course, we don’t have any rain until October. The weather is just another thing that I don’t have a chance to complain about.

A Very Nice Day

Elizabeth and Nancy’s visit here at 1225 Princeton was pleasant. We had a dinner of prime rib and salad at Billingsley spent a few hours at The Los Angeles Petersen Auto Museum, and ice cream at Cantor’s. The display of Hot Wheels at the museum was outstanding. They must have had every model on display. Some of the most popular of the toys were made into full sized automobiles, fantastic cars. Elizabeth and Nancy are both doing very well and are such good company.

A Visit

Tomorrow Elizabeth and Nancy should arrive about noon for a visit. They are driving here and plan to return home on the same day, a little less than a three hundred mile trip. We will not have a lot time to explore some interesting areas here but will have a good visit.

Today

Today should be a usual Sunday with nothing new expected just the good stuff, breakfast of hotcakes, to the UU, lunch at St. Johns for soup, dinner at The Santa Monica Medical Cafeteria for dinner and some reading and TV in the evening.

Sometime an idea comes along and much of the above changes.

Sewing

Yesterday I got out the sewing machine to do some sewing. The left eye is of little use for that task. Without depth perception threading the needle is almost impossible but I work out a method and the sewing went well.

The Use Of The Automobile

The following is an excerpt form the book “Two Thousand Miles On An Automobile” written in 1902 to show how wrong thoughts about the future can be. Little did they know the one of the practical uses of the automobile.

Speaking of the future of the automobile, the Professor said,--
"Cupid will never use the automobile, the little god is too
conservative; fancy the dainty sprite with oil-can and waste
instead of bow and arrow. I can see him with smut on the end of his mischievous nose and grease on the seat of the place where his trousers ought to be. What a picture he would make in overalls and jumper, leather jacket and cap; he could not use dart or arrow, at best he could only run the machine hither and thither bunting people into love--knocking them senseless, which is perhaps the same thing. No, no, Cupid will never use the automobile. Imagine Aphrodite in goggles, clothed in dust, her fair skin red from sunburn and glistening with cold cream; horrible nightmare of a mechanical age.

Social Life

Tuesday Paige called and suggested that since she had some leftover cake that she stop by after work for cake and coffee. I furnished soup and fruit and the combination made a pleasant light supper and a short visit.
Today Nick Umbersax a fellow volunteer and I will be at an old establish and well recommended dinner for breakfast. This coming Tuesday Elizabeth and Nancy will be here for hanging out and doing a few things around the area. That amount of socializing is just about right for me.

Some have had trouble reading about Paul’s description of the accident in the blog comments. If you are reading this blog and look on the right sidebar click on Normal and that will display the Monday’s blog with the comments containing Paul’s description.

Life

It is better start to nowhere and not get there than to start for somewhere and fall by the wayside. Just keep going and life will carry you beyond your expectations.
These are a few lines I found and believe that there is some philosophy that I have not expected and might be something to be considered.

Auto Accident

Paul and Nicholas survived the terrible auto accident without physical injury but must have an abundance of emotional damage that could last a lifetime. Not much I can do but have understanding and support.
Our California family have been mostly free of road injury and more serious automobile mishaps and know that we are all are risk so often with all the time spent on the streets, roads and highways.

Recovery

It has been a week since I returned to taking 5mg of prednisone.
The knee joints and the knuckle joints swelling are mostly gone and are feeling at 80 to 90% of normal. I don’t know about the shoulder joint where most of the pain had any swelling, did look. I sure do feel better. They say that low does of prednisone is not harmful, that may be, but I will have to put up with it if it there is.

Cambria

The plans for this year’s Elias get together tells about all who wish to be at Cambria on the 23rd and 24th of September. This will coincide with Norma’s 80th birthday on the 28th. This seems like a very good place to do our thing and enjoy a weekend in a unique spot of the California coast. A lot more details for this event is being looked into and so more information will be coming to us.

The sun

Nothing new is expected today, breakfast of bacon and eggs eaten out, a visit to a thrift story with the idea of getting some long sleeve shirts and a visit to the library. With the warmer weather it is a good idea to protect the arms from the sun. I use sunscreen but still believe that keeping the sun off is a good idea.

Cleaning Maid

Gilda Sylva a professional cleaning maid was here yesterday to give this studio apartment a good going over. She is the first maid I have had for a long time. I have been here neatly three months and like the special cleaning, dusting and sparkle trained help give a place. I think that I will try doing my usually good housekeeping and have another come to clean and etc. in about two months.

Wildlife

The birds enjoy the wild birdseed that is tossed out for them each morning. A squirrel l is feeding there also. I do not feed them much as I do not want them to be come dependent on that food, also so that they eat it all each day so as not encourage mice or rats with the left leftovers at night. So far, the humming birds have not returned but they will enjoy the feeder.

Relief

Dr. Liu and I had a good visit concerning my polymaliga rhematica. It had started giving much stiffness and making life unpleasant. He recommended and I agreeded that I start taking 5mgs of prednisone. We know there is some risk from calcium being lost but with the low mgs it should not be a problem. Two hours after the first small pill I felt so much better. Life as it comes along is what you have to deal with.

Stiffness

Today I will be at Kaiser West Los Angeles for a blood test for cholesterol, with the 14 hours of fasting. I asked for a speed up appointment with the rhymatologist Dr. Liu so that he can evaluative my condition. A way to describe it is that it seems as if most of my joints are trying while I am still alive to turn me into a stiff corpse. That is an exaggerated statement and stated just to try to explain the way the body feels after trying many solutions.

Temperature outside 63.9, inside 70.7; with bright sunshine today.
