Change

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the
confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things
better.
King Whitney Jr.

I do not know where I fit in to these impacts but I am going through a change (moving).

Today

The inspection of this condo is to be conducted for the benefit of the buyer and the lending institution on Wednesday. Nothing should be unusual. Today I will be continuing to pack boxes and get the phone service transferred. There may be a day or so of skipped blogs do to the computer to be disconnected for a while.

Andrew and Mark +

Andrew and Mark had a good nights sleep and on Sunday morning after breakfast at The International House Of Pancakes they took off for their day at the Musical Products Show held near Disneyland. Today was to be their 1st day back in class after the winter break so that they had to drive home after the event. I would believe them to be two tired boys.

Carl and Joan called to tell that they had accepted the revised offer for there condo. They will be doing some work on their new home. All things seem to be working out for us that are involved. I move on Friday. Fritz, the mover, says there will be two movers, a van and pads. It should be an easy move as I have gotten rid of a lot of stuff. I am looking forward to the new location.

Virginia

Virginia called and we got caught up on a lot of news. Anola has been in rehab for a few weeks and she was due to go home his weekend. She has about a flight and a half of stairs so she needs to do stairs. Otherwise she has done well with her knee repairs. I have given Virginia the blog web address. She does not have an internet connection but will give it to her family and in that way they will be able to see our blogs. I understand that Leslie’s daughter, Julie, monitors the ailwersblogspot and so Leslie’s family has a way of keeping up with us.

My preferred e-mail address is rwelias_1999@yahoo.com.

Birthday

Andrew and a friend will be here this evening. They are to attend an event in Anaheim on Sunday. They may stay over on Sunday night, as it is a long drive home after a busy a tiring day.

Leslie’s birthday is coming up on Tuesday the 25th. All birthdays are memorable and gives us a chance for some extra thoughts for the person on their day. It us unseal for a family to have two Leslie Elias’ in it. I do not know about Paul and Leslie’s plans for the day but know that they usually do something special. Maybe this year it will be a bit delayed and it will be their trip to Kauai later in the month.

Nothing special expected to happen today. Just doing what needs to be done.

1225 Princeton #D

$900 Santa Monica - Spanish Style 4 Unit Building In Great Location Unf. Studio, 1 bath, 1225 Princeton #D, no pets, refrigerator, stove, carpets, kitchenette, full bath, mini blinds, community yard, clean, parking included, one year minimum lease, water included.
That is the advertised description of the unit that I rented yesterday. It is big enough and has enough closets. The kitchen is small but ideal for one who only cooks breakfast oatmeal and coffee, hotcakes once a week and the unit is ground level. The area is quiet and private except for the units tenants parking. I feel that I will be well pleased.

The moving date can be anytime as I have the key, just need to get the electricity connected and the phone changed. I would think that February 1 is the moving-in day.

The Left eye

The appointment at Kaiser yesterday was a long cession, 1 to 5. They did a fluorescence (sp) study that showed that the left eye has deteriorated. I think my vision from it is a bit better, an ophthmologist knows better. A lazar treatment is no longer an option. The injection into the eye is weakly recommended due to its only temporary relief and the possibility of increasing the presser in the eye to cause glaucoma and blindness. If nothing is done legal blindness is not the result. There is a new chemical, Macugen, that has just been approved and I have read about its potential and it is fairly good. Dr. Rosen brought it up and I asked, “If is comes on the market will Kaiser have it and will you use it?”

He responded, “We will set up an appointment in three weeks and we will use it.”

1225 Princeton

Think I may have found a place that will suit me. It in only about 6 blocks from this location, ¼ block south of Wilshire on Princeton. It is a studio with a very small separate kitchen and large room and a wall of closets and an alcove, a 4 unit one floor complex, unit D off the street. I filled in the application and they will do a credit check and I should know by noon. I can move in when I wish, as it is vacant after it having been repainted, etc. I would expect to move on the 1st of February. I am feeling good about the search. It is not a show place but it is where I think I will feel at home.

Condo sales +

The showing of this condo went much better than I could have imagined. The showing was from 1 to 4. When I looked at the visitors sheet at 3:30 there were at least thirty names there. It was a beautiful day, the condo looked great. The realtor seems to know what to do and is very active. Carl should have no trouble getting it sold.

I check out a 2br 2b condo not far from here and it would suit me well. The owner is to let me know on Tuesday evening if we can make a deal. I offered a security deposit but was asked to wait. So there is a question as to the final result. I have others that I am checking out.

Elizabeth and the others will be coming here at a later date. It hard to get it organized at this time.

Vistorrs +

Elizabeth, Nancy, Doris and Ken (?) will be visiting for the day on Thursday. It will be great time for some visiting and catching up on news.

The condo will be open for showing today. I do not know all that is involved but it should show well. The painting, while it was hardly needed, has made things seem brighter. It may look larger without hangings on the walls but not as interesting.

At noon I have an appointment to meet a home sharer that is close by. It seems as if I wish to remain in Santa Monica, which I do, some sacrifices will be needed. Also a ground level unit, if and elevator is not available, is almost a must. The search has been interesting.

Thanks for the comments.

Busy

The meeting with the home sharer did not quite happen. The owner was detained and will call back today to setup an appointment this afternoon. I did get to look over the neighborhood and the outside of the building. So far all that I have seen seems to be okay.

The painter is to be here today to do the walls. That means a lot of moving of stuff. Sunday they have scheduled and open house. They will have to show it best as they can as you can imagine that there will be some confusion after the painter just leaving and nothing on the walls and things not arranged. I will do my best so that they can have a good showing.

Move Is On Track

It can be expected that I busy with moving. Things seem to be on track in the matter of getting the items not need to The Salvation Army. They are efficient in the pick-up procedure. This evening I have an interview with a prospective home sharer.

The Physical +

Yesterday was my appointment with Dr. Buch for a routine physical, He asked , looked and discussed and was satisfied that things are well. He said, “No need for any blood work as you are pervious results were good and you are doing fine, see in six months.”

Had a response from a rental that seems like a fairy tail. She even stated that she has a sweet, laid back cat. I was not home to get the call and called back and got the voice mail. I will hope for good results. There seems to be more listing of good choices so it will all work out

Still Looking

The sun is out bright and the ski clear for the second day in a row. It is seems good after all the rain.

Still searching list for a studio or a nice place with someone. There seems plenty listed but most are already taken and some are of no use to me.

Meet with the painter yesterday. It is arranged that the walls will be painted on Saturday. The unit is good condition and it should show well. I know that some units sell rapidly and I am not sure if the market is now hot or what condition buyers are in.

Rental Units

The property at 1144 Wilshire did not work out. The bedroom was too small. The whole unit was also crowded. To bad as the owner was nice, interesting and would have been very cooperative. The Westside Rental has many good listings and I am checking on them. I expect that there will be about month to get resettled.

Events are looking good.

Events are looking good that I will get the rental unit that I have wanted since December 23rd. I ran across the owner by a fortunate action yesterday and things seemed to mesh. I will be at the location at 3:30 today. Life is a jumbled event!

Rain +

Lots of rain and even more coming. If it is not a down pour I will walk the 5-½ blocks to and from the UU’s. There is to be a gathering of renters and landlords, food and coffee not to far from the UU’s at noon to 1 p.m. That should be interesting. I have a studio apartment lead and will check out the neighborhood during the afternoon. With a large umbrella I should stay dry enough.

Moves

Thanks, Paul for your blog comment.
Carl’s prospective agent checked out their condo yesterday and they decided that not much upgrading or will be needed to get the condo sold. Carl and Joan’s new home sale is moving forward fast and they expect to be in their new home in a month, maybe or less.

I am checking on studios and shared homes. There seems to be quite a few but locations and amenities lessen the choices. I should have time to find what will work best.

Our rains are continuing to dump a lot of water. I have not head of much damage. As the ground gets saturated it may react with landslides. The drainage is preventing flooding so far.

Anola and Carl and Joan;s new home.

Talked with Anola and she is doing very well after her operation to repair only one knee. She walked quite a distance down a hallway. Today she should be in a nursing facility to continue the recovery.

Carl’s e-mail told of their finding a home in Napa and are acting rapidly to get it as it is at a good price for Napa. His purchase terms will work out well and will allow them time to get this condo sold without pressure.
I have seen the listing of many places that would be good for me.

The surprise is that I have not had a return response from many of them.

Anola's Operation

Duane, Anola’s boy friend and significant other, called to let me know that she is doing just fine after the operation on both of her knees. I will talk with her today. Others have had that operation and have done well. She will need time to rehabilitate. She has about a flight and a half of steps up and into her apartment so she needs her knees to work well.

Her address is: Anola Brown, 1923 Viking Way NW, Rochester MN, 55901, 507 288 4824.

Left Eye

It is unbelievable but I think that my left eye is making a comeback. Macular degeneration is not supposed to do that. The bending or distortion has corrected itself. It still does not recognize yellow. The images are about ¾ size and bleared. The distant vision has improved a great deal and the amount of light needed is less than it was. On the 18th is the date of the appointment with Dr. Rosen. It will be interesting to know what he thinks. I feel that with some new glasses and a little more time things will be quite satisfactory.

It is good feeling to able to be of some help. They are all be from stronger sex, Judy, Vera and Elayne. Interesting!

Family Tradition

The 1st day of 2005 and I followed some of Norma’s family traditions and made a dinner of pork and sauerkraut. An ear of corn, some baked beans and coffee rounded out the menu.

A trip by Seway to buy some birdseed and a walk to Ralph’s for the food was the only time away from home so far this year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As I look out the window with sun out bright and the air so clear it is a good start for 2005. I would expect the year to be another good one. Things will happen during the year that we may not know about but that is life.

It was the 1st in few years that I did go to a local pub at midnight for a glass of ale. I was up finishing watching “As Good As It Gets” with Robin Williams. It is one of my favorite movies.

Happy 2005 to you all!
